The three truant trustees of Davis county Ind who have been systematically plundering the municipality are in Ham ilton hiding Their names are Grimsley Brown and Clark Mr Billheimer the county attorney of Washington Ind arrived here a day or two ago and had an interview with the culprits I he said to a reporter three of thegloomiest trustees I ever saw in my life They looked sad and forsaken but offered no apologies or explanations concerning their schemes They blamed a Chicago person for a good part of the mischief I believe the three trustees have much left bnt I think the Chicago man beat them out of about all they raised on the fraudulent warrants because the paper was made out to hia order and he made no promise to hand over the money to them as he dis posed of the paper It is a fact however that none of the three could tell even approximately how much paper they had issued The total amount cannot bo estimated at less than 8250000 for the three townships in which the frauds were The big steal has caused consternation among the people of Davis county and may result in an extra session of the legislature for the purpose of amending the laws which at present it is said allow the the township trustees almost unlimited power in raising money for which value re ceived does not enter as a consideration More About the Yacht Courtney Alter Bad Weather Prevent Baseball GamesBlcycle Race th CLirrsns 1 To thb Editob Sir It is with feelings of surprise that 1 have read your articles on baseball in this city or years you have been a consistent supporter ot the game and particularly of the Clippers But I must certainly disagree with the conclusions you draw regarding the game and players The progress of the game from a moral standpoint has been very great and this is due to a number of gen tlemen who have identified ttfemselves with it and together with the late trophy com mittee have done and are now doing all in their power to preserve the standing and popularity of what is undoubtedly a splendid game Many can doubtless con trast the Eagle vs Central and the junior championship series with the present league games and it is undoubtedly in every sense favorable to the present league series Ladies can and do attend now without offense to them and have a good effect on the general attendance It is generally ad mitted that we have never had as well conducted games and on the whole they compare favorably with the best National league games for punctuality order and skilful playing and judging from observa tion it would be very difficult to secure a more gentlemanly lot of players than Ham ilton now nossesses I was pleased to read Mr manly and courteous letter and imagine tfrat others will also form the opinion that it was a complete reply to your remarks It is hoped the discussion will do good 1 for one think Hamilton need not feel ashamed of the Clinnersand may rely upon seeing fair manly spdrt Yours sincerely LKAGUB
